imageWoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades provide a guaranteed boost to specific stats. Each upgrade increases the item level by +3. Each upgrade also increases a random substat.

The upgraded gear is usually more useful, unless the item has a low requirement by nature (like FB sorc shields) or has a high variance in stats (like eth Titan weapons). Upgrades are not as valuable for the latter due to the requirement to roll the perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader allows players to upgrade their gear by transferring the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any type of weapon or armor. The item used to upgrade the item is discarded and cannot be used again. Upgrades can be applied to the enchantments.

You can upgrade your gear at any time by visiting the upgrader in any major city. To keep your gear up-to-date it is recommended that you visit the upgrader every several weeks.

Upgrades will cost more depending on the level of the item, however, they are always cheaper than purchasing new equipment. Upgrades like upgrading a Benthic chest to 385 ilvl will cost you 20 recycle points. If you purchase a similar item level Upgrade, it will cost you 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are functional items that are used to upgrade weapons and tools, armor and accessories. Players can purchase them from item upgraders NPCs in a variety of currencies. They are also available on random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade can be applied to any tool, weapon or armor. The button will display the preview of an item upgrade's next upgrade level when there are enough materials.

Upgrade costs differ based on the slot for the item upgrader mod and the current level of the item. For example weapons are more expensive than bracers, or gloves. Each upgrade cost 15 Flightstones and a few crests, with some upgrades offering discounts to lower the cost of Flightstones or crests that are used. Once an Best item upgrader has been upgraded to a certain degree it can be re-downgraded and sold to the upgrader at a lower cost.

A lot of locations offer upgraders for items in addition to the main island and a few outposts. The NPCs provide an upgrade discount and the chance to get a brand new upgrade recipe. The discount for upgrading increases when more items are upgraded. It can be increased if players complete certain achievements or quests.

In contrast to Cromwell in Baldur's Gate II there is no upgrader for items available at the beginning of Icewind Dale. Instead, the NPCs that are available to help with upgrades must be acquired through a variety of means, which is both an improvement but also a drawback.

In Season 3, a number of new features have been added to the upgrade system. Once a player has upgraded to a specific level for an armor slot, upgrading other items to the same item level, will cost less. This applies even if the items come from a different set of gear.

The discount is available to all accounts. The amount of Harbinger Crests required for upgrades is reduced also, but is only available after certain milestones are reached.

Crests

imageWhen it comes to upgrading gear in WoW players have a few choices. Flightstones are an option that is accessible to everyone who wants to upgrade. Crests are more specific and are used for specific item level upgrades. Crests are an important component of the Dragonflight Gear Progression System that was introduced in version 10.1. They are available in four ranks.

The first thing to remember is that Crests are only available to equipment with a certain rank. Each rank has an upgrade path that is different. The simplest and easiest upgrade is 15 crests. The most complex upgrade requires up to 20 crests, depending on the kind of gear that is being upgraded.

Players can earn crests by working through tasks at the appropriate level. This could be by engaging in outdoor activities or doing dungeons or raids in any difficulty to earn equipment of lower tier or Mythicbosses for raids, or dungeons with heroic difficulty for gear in the endgame. Crests can be exchanged at an item upgrader NPC, like Cuzolth in Dornogal, or Vaskarn in Valdrakken to obtain the appropriate upgrade routes and steps.

The new currency system isn't complicated to use, but it brings some changes to the process of upgrading. For example, once an item upgrader kit reaches the highest upgrade level of any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic), it won't need Flightstones to be upgraded. This is to allow players to get their equipment to the highest level possible on all their characters instead of relying only on seasonal loot.

Another important modification is that crests have one usage therefore it's essential to use them wisely. For instance it's a good idea to make use of all your Whelpling-rank crests on the Best item upgrader equipment available and save Drake and Wyrm crests for the next batch of upgrades you plan to make. This is particularly applicable to items like trinkets and rings that take up multiple slots. The discount for the entire account will only be applicable if all the slots on the character are filled with top-quality gear.
