Study of Chinese Learners' Pedagogical Choices in Korean

In the field of linguistics the DCT is now one of the primary tools for analyzing learners' behavior in communication. Recent research utilized an DCT as an instrument to test the refusal skills of EFL students. Their decisions were influenced by four factors such as their personality and multilingual identities, their ongoing life histories as well as their relationships. The results of the MQs, DCTs and z-tests were examined using descriptive statistics and z tests. A recent study sought to answer this question by employing a variety of research instruments, including DCTs, MQs, and RIs. The participants consisted of 46 CLKs, 44 CNSs and 45 KNSs from five Korean universities. They were asked to complete the DCTs in their native language and to complete the MQs either in their L1 or their L2. Then they were invited to attend a RI where they were required to consider their responses to the DCT situations.

The results showed that CLKs, on average, did not adhere to the pragmatic norms of native speakers in more than 40 percent of their responses. They did so even though they could produce native-like patterns. They were aware of their practical resistance. They attributed their choice to learner-internal variables such as their personalities and multilingual identities. They also referred to external factors, such as relational benefits. For instance, they outlined how their relationships with professors helped facilitate more relaxed performance with respect to the linguistic and intercultural norms of their university.

The interviewees expressed their concern about the social pressures and penalties they could be subject to when their social norms were not followed. They were concerned that their native interlocutors may view them as "foreignersand consider them unintelligent. This concern was similar to the concerns expressed by Brown (2013) and Ishihara (2009).

These findings suggest that native-speakers' pragmatic norms are not the preferred norm for Korean learners. They could still be a useful model for official Korean proficiency tests. But it is advisable for future researchers to revisit their relevance in specific scenarios and in various cultural contexts. This will allow them to better understand the effects of different cultural environments on the classroom behavior and interactions of L2 students. Furthermore, this will help educators develop more effective methodologies to teach and test the korea's pragmatics.
