Though its moniker had been used to designate trim levels in previous years, 1981 was the entire year in which the Town Car arrived to existence as an individual model. Lincoln also distinguished itself during these years as the first American car line to supply antilock braking. That velvet-lined cruiser was followed
mid-decade by the Mark VII, which was more European in nature and could even be powered by a BMW turbodiesel engine. In 1981, Lincoln released its now iconic Town Car, the full-size luxury sedan that has since served as the marque's flagship.
The Mark series continued to evolve and shrunk down considerably with the debut of the Mark VI. The four-cylinder Nautilus with all-wheel drive is rated at 22 mpg in combined driving,
2024 Lincoln whilst the V-6 version with all-wheel drive is rated at 21. But what's surprising is how close the turbocharged V-6 models are to the four-cylinder models. The 75 mph highway fuel economy estimate was 25 mpg highway on our test route. The all-wheel-drive V-6 Black Label test vehicle was rated just 24 MPG.
The entry-level engine in the
2024 Lincoln Nautilus lineup is just a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine pumping out 250 horsepower. All the SUVs in this segment are grouped closely as it pertains to EPA fuel efficiency estimates; The front-wheel-drive four-cylinder Nautilus paves just how for Lincoln entrants. It's attached to an eight-speed automatic transmission and could be had with front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. By now, sport-utility vehicles had emerged as a section to be reckoned with, and Lincoln made the absolute most of the trend by launching its initial SUV, the Ford Expedition-based Navigator, in 1998.
The '90s saw the debut of the Mark VIII, which featured a four-cam V8 and air suspension. Bedecked in chrome and fitted with plush leather and Lincoln Nautilus 2024 luxury features galore, the massive truck was a breakout hit. Along with the 12.3-inch digital gauge display, all Nautilus models come with a large 13.2-inch infotainment touchscreen. The Nautilus's rear seat is really a vast cargo area that swallowed 12 carry-on suitcases inside our testing—two more compared to the XT5 and three more than the RX350.
Especially attractive to buyers with kids, Lincoln has an optional rear-seat entertainment system on all trim levels. Dropping the trunk seat to its flat position—an activity that's made simple because of handy levers in the cargo area that flop the seatbacks down—creates room for 27 suitcases, which matches the bigger, three-row Volvo XC90. Ford's latest Sync 4 infotainment software is simple to use and offers more modern features, including over-the-air update capability.
Apple CarPlay and 2025 Lincoln
Nautilus Android Auto compatibility, an 11-speaker audio system, and a 4G LTE-powered onboard Wi-Fi hotspot are typical standard; navigation and a wireless smartphone charging pad are standard on Reserve and Black Label models. Although the Nautilus shares exactly the same platform while the Ford Edge, buyers probably won't guess it. Nearly everything inside our Reserve and Black Label test vehicles was covered in soft leather, and the headliner on the Black Label models was covered in faux suede.
Whilst the vehicles are similarly spacious, Lincoln's cabin offers more style and ruggedness, with optional 22-way adjustable massage seats, a typical digital instrument cluster, and a push-button gear selector.
