Side-by-Side
They are the most popular type of double pushchair and usually can accommodate two children side-by-side. They are usually bigger than single pushchairs. This can make them less able to maneuver on footpaths. It is also difficult to navigate between kerbs when an automobile seat is installed. However the extra width can mean that they're often a lot easier to navigate through doors and are distributed more evenly making them less burdensome to carry on your back.
Many models are able to be used as twin
prams pushchairs prams and accept a carrycot, or two car seats. Some can even convert into one mode by adding an additional basket (like the Cybex Venus).
One of the best examples of this is the Bugaboo Donkey 5 which, in Twin Mode, allows you to place the rear seat and a carrycot side by side. This creates an entirely enclosed twin room and is perfect for newborns. The
pram uk comes with very cool accessories, like the newborn cocoons that can be attached either facing towards the front or in any direction (for twin-facing prams). It's not as lightweight as other options but it is extremely well-thought out.
Lightweight
Cybex is renowned for its unique pushchairs, and the single-to-double is no exception. Its innovative frame expands widthways to take an additional seat and can be used it as a twin right from birth with the addition of two infant cocoons (PS59 each) which create enclosed lie-flat spaces for infants. The large shopping basket that is behind the seat lets it be used in mono mode for a single child. It also has a rear and front suspensions that can handle bumps and uneven surfaces more easily. Tandem
If you plan to have twins you will need a tandem pushchair. This will allow the children to sit together and look at each one another. These are great for things such as visiting the zoo because the kids will be able to look at all the animals together. They're also ideal for parents who have to keep one eye on their toddler and the other on their child because they can see both of them at the same time.
Some tandem pushchairs offer ultra flexibility since they can be converted back to single mode. This is particularly useful for families with more than two kids (or
best travel stroller only your oldest does not require a buggy anymore). This will help you avoid having to store a buggy empty which can be costly.
For instance the Cybex Venus can be used in mono or double mode and has a clever frame that can be expanded to allow for an additional seat. It's not the tiniest pushchair, but it has an enormous basket that can be placed behind the front seat in double mode, or in the back when it's in mono mode. The seats can be positioned so that they face each other, or one can be positioned higher so that it can look over the other and see what they are doing.
Other double tandem pushchairs, such as the Joolz Geo 3 can seat one on top of the other or side-byside. They have a sleek, compact frame that makes them easier to navigate through doorways and aisles of supermarkets, and some models can be used as a jogging stroller or on rough terrain thanks to a four-wheel suspension as well as large rear wheels.
Another benefit of a tandem pushchair is that it will often take two carrycots, or a car seat and buggy seat. This allows you to build a travel system right from the outset and save money on additional purchases. It's important to keep in mind that tandems are heavier and longer than single pushchairs, and may feel less stable when as you go over uneven surfaces. They also require dismantling to fit into cars.
